2008 Homes for our Troops Sporting Clays Tournament
OHH supported Homes for our Troops (HFOT), a national non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 2004, by holding a sporting clay tournament, January 25-26, 2008. The event, which attracted about 750 shooters, raised more than $100,000, which allows HFOT to build a new specially adapted home for a severely injured veteran.
OHH member Energy Corporation of America was the title sponsor, contributing $25,000 and numerous volunteer hours for the event. Other OHH companies who supported the event were Halliburton, Edge Petroleum, M-I SWACO, CETCO and Schlumberger. More than 100 people volunteered at the event.
In support of the event, Houston Mayor Bill White and the Houston City Council declared January 25-26 as Homes for our Troops days in Houston. The event was attended by two veterans who had received specially adapted homes from HFOT. Among many supporters who attended were the Houston Chapter of The Gold Star Mothers and a former Korean Conflict prisoner of war.
John Gonsalves, president of HFOT, said: "The outpouring of support from everyone who made the event a success shows what Americans can do when they work together to aid our severely injured veterans. This event and the people who made it possible showed exactly was 'supporting the troops' is all about."
Thanks to all volunteers who helped make this a success.
